It is a tractor of sorts. Used on construction sites where an air supply was needed for a jack hammer etc.

I've heard of people making their own air compressor using a 6 cylinder, 3 cylinders would burn gas, 3 cylinders would pump air.

Ya J C Whitney sold those things where you could pull a spark plug out of one cylinder and use your car/truck engine to air up a tire etc. That one pictured is a true construction type machine

That's a LeRoi Tractair.You can see the emblem on
the side . They are a Monobloc engine. It is a six
cyl. and has 2 large cyls in the rear to compress
the air , and it runs on 4 cyls., all in one block.
The Schramm used a six cyl IHC engine and had a
spl. head that converted the rear two to compress
air.
