800 cyl head

After replacing cyl. head I found that temp probe would not tighten down. Seems as though the replacement head does not have a seat for the nub on the probe. Has anyone experienced this and if so what is a
solution? HELP

You need the adapter that was in the other head, it looks like the one below.

Did you buy a used head from somebody?
All original Ford heads were machined with the correct seat for the temperature sensing probe to be installed with NO adapters. If your new head doesn't have the seat machined into it then it is safe to assume that someone has drilled it out and retapped the hole with a NPT (pipe) thread. In that case you will need an adapter bushing as posted in another response.
