Just purchased a Ford 3000, the battery is connected positive ground. My manual says its a negative ground system. Which is correct ? Its a 1971 3 cylinder with generator...Thank You...Ben

It was negative ground from the factory. If it's hooked up as positive ground now and the charging circuit is keeping it charged then you will need to polarize the regulator if you switch it back to negative ground.

You repolarize the Genny, not the reg.

Get battery polarity checked, and make sure negative is to frame.

Pull the small field wire off the Genny.

Jump bat hot to the now naked field spade on the Genny.

Now its polarized. Plug the lil field spade back on,

Start up and check her!

Put a volt meter on the battery and check the polarity. Its possible to reverse charge a battery. If it reads positive on the positive post, then do as the others say. reverse battery, repolarize the generator.. restart and see if the voltage rises correctly.
