The patient: 1970 ford 4000, gas, indept pto and
standard 8 speed trans. After splitting the unit.
Can I remove the main drive input shaft with the retaining plate as an assembly without removing the counter gear? In the manual they say to remove the pto counter shaft front bearing, then remove the shaft from the back of the trans. The counter shaft gear can then be removed.
Is it possible to remove the countershaft bearing
and slide the gear forward? Is there clearance to then pull the main input shaft assy with the retaining plate ,forward up and out of the trans
housing. I would like to inspect the pilot bearing
and renew my leaking shaft seals while I replace the clutch
