901 problems

My 901 sos stalled and won't start. It missed and sputtered. Had no power. Backfired once in a while. Finally died and won't start. I drained the carburetor and checked the bowl. Wondered if I had dirt or water in the gas. Points have been replaced not too many hours ago. Since I'm no mechanic I could use some advice on where to start. Thanks!

Start with your spark. Verify that you have a good bluish white spark that will jump at least 1/4".
Short or yellowish spark Will Not Do.
It may have new points but if they were purchased from Tisco or Tractor Supply those China Maid points are known to fail early.
Buy only Blue Streak or Echlin points and condenser.
Napa sells them.
Then go on to fuel.

Do as Ultra say then move on the fuel. If you have good spark that is. Pull the drain plug out of the bottom of the carb and let gas flow for a couple minutes. Catch the gas to look for dirt/rust in it. Then when was the last time you serviced the oil bath air cleaner it could be full of dirt and this time of year be frozen due having a lot of water in it and ice does not let air in well

i agree, check spark first. if it has spark, then if it has spark.. you should be able to make it fire on start fluid. if that won't get it, thumb check compression.

Had this happen with mine once, I had adjusted the points but didn't get them tight, they eventually got 'out of gap' and just needed re-adjusted.

Bring it to louisiana and I will take it off your hands as it seems like you should just get a new one. LOL!!!
