anyone using a 6v starter on 12v should

(quoted from post at 23:08:42 02/17/15) Anyone using a 6v starter on 12v should go to my post on Tractor Talk.

Does it have the original starter bolts.... I looked for a spec on'em but could not find it... Ford starter alignment issues are rare but it does happen...

I am replacing the starter and flywheel on a 65 Ford Galaxie auto 390... It has busted the starter drive a few times I replace the starter the last time and told him it would need a flywheel... Every part about the starter and alignment has been a issue...

The starter on this 65  Replacements are drilled for a 3/8" bolt the original was 5/16... I would take a look at that will it cause a issue I dunno but I don't like it...

All 3 bolts are oringinal. The starter fits tightly
in the hole and it's can only go one way.

My Farmall only uses 2 bolts.

Seems like some want to find an excuse for a
chipped tooth.

Cause and effect is there more than one answer... Dunno... 12V systems have the same issues....

After supper I did turn some bushings to resolve my 5/16" 3/8" issue... I made a extra $25 and had fun :D Starter drive flywheel issues are never good....

George, you are showing a sample of one. Let me add to your pool: I've had a 6 volt starter on my 4000 since I bought it over twenty years ago. I've never snapped a tooth. I did have to replace the ring gear for wear fifteen years ago. I believe the starter and ring gear on my 4000 are pretty much identical to those on your Jubilee.

So now we have a sample size of two, showing a fifty percent probability of a broken tooth. Hardly what you'd call statistically significant.

Question: Is your ring gear Ford OEM or aftermarket? I wouldn't be surprised to see broken teeth on an imported part.
