Wanted to tell anybody looking for the proper red paint, the best bet is not the pre mixed stuff but to go to sherwin williams and have them mix it, it took 7 edits, but we got the red nearly perfect to the original on the tractor.

Can you tell me the paint code that you ended up with for the red. Also did you get any gray mixed? I have the orginal codes and Monday i'll check and see if my store can match them up. Thanks for any help. ED

If you really want the right color, take your battery box out and clean the underside with polishing compound and take it to an automotive paint jobber. They will digitally analyze it for you and reproduce it as near to exact as you can get.

Hello Showcrop , There is no right color there is only one color . The codes I listed for a few posts back are the FORD FACTORY CODES for the ORIGINAL FACTORY FORMULA MIX and they are the ONLY CORRECT CODES . As I have said before FORD bought paint in BULK BY THE TANK CAR LOAD at the cheapest bid price NOT every load was mixed EXACTLY the same EVERY TIME it is a SHEER IMPOSSIBLITY , Not only that but the same manufacturer did not win the bid every time so when new a 1957,1958,1959,1960,1961,1962 could ALL BE SHADE DIFFERENT even though they are ALL THE SAME COLOR .Today however that code can be DIGITALLY MIXED and the formula can be measured exactly as the code specifies and the color WILL BE EXACTLY AS WAS INTENDED WHEN NEW rather than using your method which will be wrong no matter what . Thanks Tony

Tony, Why will my method be wrong no matter what when I am doing it the way you are recommending?

Hello Showcrop , The only spot likely to NOT be affected by anything would be inside the headlights or tailight . EVERYTHING affect color tint gas , diesel fuel , oil ,soap & water , wax , battery acid , the Sun of course and of course the original mix itself could have been off from the factory it could have been more red or orange . That's why if you use the Factory paint code it will bring up Ford's original formula with the correct amount of pigments used to make the gray or red color and NOT take into account and fade or tint in the color from age or another source which it will when you use a paint chip , if you bring in a faded chip the computer will give matching faded paint . The Gold Demo Paint code I have listed here for years comes from the ORIGINAL LINCOLN/MERCURY Ford paint code so the formula is correct that's why Feron Dalton's Gold Demo Resto's looked so good , everyone else tried to match the Gold your way and have come up with many different colors/shades and ALL ARE WRONG . Thanks Tony

Ok. I'm not sure what exactly went on, but...
I did have them analyze the red off the bottom of the running board. In the 70s-80s. all the red was covered in blue so its been pretty protected. I'm trying to post a pic of the tag but internets been fightin me. In short, I have the closest red I could get to what was on this tractor.
