What's this dohickey?

I haven't yet found this in my service manual. This is my first SOS so just trying to understand what's going on. I don't believe the previous owner had this hooked up.

Are you asking about the pressure switch? If so that is the low fluid pressure switch that illuminates the red warning light on the dash. It's an NC switch and fluid pressure opens it which turns the warning light off.

Yep, that's it. It makes sense. Now I'm gonna have to look at my manuals cause I don't remember two warning light holes in the dash. Were they both red or was one green and the other red?

Thanks

They are both the same part # in the CNH catalog, assuming they are both red.

CNH Catalog Instrument Panel

#2 in the bottom picture shows the location of the optional light.

My SOS doesn't have the light, and the top cover of the trans doesn't have the grommet for the wire either. I have not removed the cover to see if it has the switch yet.

Thanks, Steiners was selling a red and green set and was just wondering. Since they are both warning lights, of course it makes sense that they would be red.

My wire (check the photo) comes out the side at the dipstick cover inspection plate. Will check to see if I can see a wiring diagram that would show how that single wire goes to the dash.

I have an SOS and am in the same "learning boat". The wire on this sensor goes out the side plate above the Z bracket, then up along the transmission case, then up into the instrument panel and to the light on the right side near the throttle lever. That lens and the on on the other side for the generator warning are both red on my tractor and they look to be original.

When granddad's 871 was new, it had [b:aab0372cff]Gen[/b:aab0372cff] on the left light and [b:aab0372cff]Tra[/b:aab0372cff] on the right one. Both were red. The lettering was black.

Hello Larry , Late 1959's and 1960's were the only ones the have the lettering on the warning lamps . Guess the bean counters didn't like the lettering on the lamps anymore the all of the different decals like on the early tractors . Thanks Tony
