Water pump for my 681.

Got this tractor running yesterday and right away discovered a major leak from the water pump. It is a 144 ci Diesel engine. Is there anything I should be aware of when ordering a new pump for this somewhat limited production enging? Hopefully it is the same as the more popular 172 ci gas and diesel engines.

Also, has anyone done the research lately and found the best overall source for this part?

Thanks in advance

I've not researched this issue but cannot imagine that the 144 CI engine uses a water pump different from the 172 CI engine.

That said, I have had far too many issues with aftermarket parts and avoid such if at all possible.

Though you will pay more, I would order a REBUILT water pump from NAPA.

I wouldn't touch a rebuilt pump from NAPA!

never had a rebuilt pump or starter yet from NAPA that lasted more than a week.
My dad once bought seven NAPA rebuilt pumps before he got one that didn't leak.

I have had three or four after market pumps for 8n's-NAA's never had one that leaked.

You can buy a kit to rebuild your old one.I would tear the old pump down first make sure it's good before I ordered a kit.

I guess it is all location, I have very good luck with NAPA rebuilt pumps. BTW I am in Central Virginia

There could be 2 different style water pumps on your tractor, the original style had the pulley and hub pressed onto the shaft, the newer style had a pulley, spacer and 4 long bolts to hold it on to the pump, they take different fans so you need to order the correct pump so you can use you old fan.
