Gauges for 601/641

Just wondering if anyone has purchased the full set from here for the 12v?

I don't have much other options for replacing my gauges when I get around to it, so I just had a couple questions.

Do the gauges come with all necessary wires and lines and such, or will I have to re-use my old?

The only two options I see are for a 5 speed or the SOS, but I have a 4 speed. Will the 5 speed work? or will the gauge be off on the numbers?

I do know the proofmeter comes with the cable, good thing to as mine was making a horrible squealing noise at the meter itself and when I disconnected the line where it attaches to the tractor, the whole inside line came right out. At least the squealing has stopped. Proofmeter didn't work anyway so no loss there.

Thanks

I think I got the proofmeter from steiner for my '59 641. It was the only place that sold the meter with the original flags. Worked great though but not made in the USA. Only beef I have with it though is that instead of using regular hex head nuts it used weird plastic thumb nuts which I could not get to tighten down enough to get the rubber to sink into the dash and fit flush with my dash. Mine sits up about 1/8" above the dash compared to the original that came off that was sitting flush. I replaced with regular nuts to try to sink it in but it started to pull the back of the gauge and got to the point the stud started to turn so if anyone goes this route just be warned either live with gauge sitting up above dash by using the rubber or sit it without rubber and possibly get water leakage behind dash. Don't try to force it like me or you could break it.

As far as the other gauges, my Amp gauge (no fuel gauge on mine) came from Steiner, my Temp and Oil Pressure came from Dennis Carpenter. I went with Steiner on the Amp Gauge cause the needle mimicked fairly closely the reproduction oil pressure gauge but with a white vs offwhite needle to the oil gauge.

Out of all the gauges I purchased though, none of them came with anything, I had to reuse my original hardlines for my oil gauge even my original oil gauge adapter that screws to the gauge itself had to be reused. The proof meter did not come with a new drive cable but I did not purchase one and now wish I did as running mine today the proof meter didn't work found the cable where the metal sheathing was split open some caused the cable to fray in two. Now its time to order me a new cable for mine, will probably go through Dennis Carpenter for this as his company is good at selling NOS parts if he has them without even saying they are NOS.

After looking again at the gauge kit here, I think I am mistaken. I do not believe that the proof meter comes with the cable.

Hey Rusty,

I noticed you had replied, but when I go in the thread, your reply doesn't show up. I was able to see your reply when I replied by scrolling down the reply page. Weird. Even after my reply, yours doesn't show up for me while reading the thread. Anyone else having this issue?

edit: Forgot to say thanks Rusty for the info.

It is weird it doesn't even show up on my side.
Here's my guess - Rusty is posting using classic view and he used
a competitor's name in his post. Modern view doesn't allow them,
so the whole post was lost in "translation" between the two views.

The temperature gauge would come with a new sensor.
The rest would come as bare gauges with mounting hardware.

YT sells the 4 speed proof meters, although I haven't looked
for them in the "kit". I would bet if you called YT they could
make that happen for you though.

I saw the 4 speed ones listed with the 6 volt kit but not the 12 volt. Mine is a 12 volt. or doesn't it matter for the proof meter?

I posted in modern view, I hate the classic view. I did how ever mention Dennis-Carpenter though as well as Steiner. But guess what I hate to say it but I have bought stuff from here and I like the forums here but I will buy from who ever offers what I need. I didn't get my proof meter from here cause they did not offer the correct reproduction one with the flags on the needle for the 1 through 4 gears and Steiner did. There is zero reason to censor my posts because this company did not offer what I was seeking that a competitor did offer. I don't think I ever been on a forum before that would punish people from trying to keep their tractor or vehicle as original like as possible even if it ment using a competitor.

It's cable driven, so it won't care.
Unless they have a fancy back lit one that I haven't seen.

The only gauge in the set that cares whether it's 6 or 12V is the fuel gauge. you'll also need the proper sender with that as well.

The original gauges on a 601 series tractor, left to right: Gen tellite, fuel, temperature, oil pressure, tach above and in middle.

The new gauge set comes with lighted gauges, hence the 12v/6v difference for the whole set.

The temp gauge comes with the sensor and wire connected.

The fuel gauge comes with the sending unit that goes in the tank, but no wires.

It also comes with the big black light that goes in the center of the instrument cluster.

The proofmeter doesn't come with the cable, and the oil pressure gauge doesn't come with the oil line.

At least thats how my set came from the YT store.

They are a nice upgrade from the old ones though.
