seating a bead

Hi,

I patched my 28" spinout rim and got the tire back on the rim and the tube in the tire.

I cant get one part of the bead to seat. Is there a trick? I tried soapy water. I don;t want to get too much more pressure in the tire lest it go bang.

thanks in advance!

I always use rim grease when mounting tires to help the beads to seat and, more importantly, to prevent rim rust so that the tire can be easily changed 10 or 15 years from now.

That said, if the tire is in good condition (not dry rotted) you can inflate it to 30 psi or so to seat the bead.

Alternatively, just install and use. It will eventually seat itself with use.

There is a product called Murphy's soap that work real good. Or dish soap right out of the bottle no water. As said 30 PSI is ok to seat teh beads but best if you have a clip on type of air chuck so you can stand back form it just in case
