we have a TW-5 fwd it has started making a slight humming or buzzing noise when the front axle is engaged . when in 2wd , it goes away' what could this be? thanks in advance for any ideas. going to call the dealer later today to quiz him.

Some gear whine is normal when in 4WD. I seem to even recall a service bulletin about this which pretty much explained it away. Unless it's really loud, I would not get too excited.

About the only other thing I might do if I were too concerned would be to drain the oil and look for metal shavings.

ok it happened suddenly , not gladually, seems to be coming from under neth cab area ? will listen more closely today

Did you put air in tires recently ?
Is pressure normal in all tires ?

If pressure is diffent than normal in one tire
it might cause strain on drive train and produce noise.

On my 1997 Dodge Ram 4X4 when a tire has a different pressure than the others it makes little whining and cannot disengage the lever without backup and forward and turning steering few times.
