801 hydraulic line problem

Discovered that the larger (return?) hydraulic line in the clutch housing is split presumably from water freezing in the line. Can you find this line? Can you get them out? Can you put a smaller line inside this one? Can it be brazed in place? The split is about at 4:00 o'clock - about a foot in from the front of the clutch housing. Can it be removed, repaired and replaced? Replace the whole tranny? 841 tractor.

You can remove the manifold, tap the line and use a threaded rod, washer and nut to pull the old one out. It's a pretty easy job if you know someone who has a lathe to make the new one. If I'm not mistaken it's a one inch tube. Swaged .005 oversize on end and turned down .005 at the first boss and another .005 at the rear one.

may not even need the threaded rod.

Credit Mr. Hobo for this tip, but he says you can tap the tube, and then put in a bolt and slide hammer it out, or use a socket spacer and washer to snatch the tube out.

I havn't used that option yet, but it's filed in my notes for a way to remove without a split next time i do one..

I have brazed lots of steel hydraulic lines. Brazing will hold all the pressure that the steel line will.

Test it for soap bubbles before you button it up.

So I brazed the split in the big line and used the soapy water to confirm that there were no leaks. Then I blew air into the smaller pressure line and air was coming out of the transmission housing. I thought that can't be good. I split the tractor at the differential/tranny and noticed that the housing was blown out around where the line takes a 90 angle up to the lift cylinder assembly. So differential housing is now a boat anchor. I tapped the small line in the tranny and pulled it out (in four pieces). It was rusted/broken right inside the front of the tranny. Will have to get a new line and the tranny should be good. Thanks for all the replies1
