1967 Ford 2000 Hydraulic filter

Hydraulic lift is slow and jerky especially in
cold climate. I would like to clean hydraulic
filter in the diff case. Do I have to remove the
hydraulic top cover to reach the filter ? If
so..do I have to disconnect something inside
before lifting the cover.
There is a cab on the tractor... I plan to use an
engine hoist thru the rear window.

Thanks in advance

There are two filters. Wire mesh filter on the suction line and a paper filter on the return from the valve. Lift cover has to come off. There is a vertical tube under the right front corner that may come out with the cover. Use a hoist and lift it straight up. I had to pull the PTO shaft to get the suction filter and tube out. Mine would not lift when cold. Turned out to be the pump. Check for pressure and air in the fluid first.

Thanks Mike for your reply.

On the hyd cover there is a remote quick coupling plug controlled by a spool valve. If I put a pressure meter to the remote plug and activate the valve when cold it takes 20 to 30 seconds to build pressure up to 2200 PSI and pops the releif valve...and activate the lift instantly up even with an implement.

If I return the aux valve to the neutral position next time it will take again 20 to 30 seconds to build pressure.

After 30 minutes engine warm-up lift operates but 5 second delay.

So I,m ???

Thanks

I should had give more detailed explanation...

When the releif valve pops I immediately release the remote valve lever then the lift operates normaly.
(not during the valve is squealing) It seems it needs to build pressure to operate.

The next time I have to do the same thing to operate the lift. When warmed up the lift operates as it should but 5 second delay.

I bough this tractor from an estate few months ago it cames with an I&T shop manual which is summary I will have to buy an Ford genuine manual.

Tis is my first Ford I have few Massey-Ferguson for 40 years which I know pretty well but Fords are different animals for me.

Thanks again for your replies

That makes more sense. I think the lift works because it has already built up pressure. I still think it's your pump. Either getting air in the fluid or not pumping well and builds pressure slow. Mine was chattering and the lift was intermittent. I got a rebuild kit from this site and replaced the check balls and seats even though the old ones looked OK. What a difference. The pump could also be pulling air past the O-rings at the suction line or the pump body.
