850 Starting problem

57 850 gas 6 volt. engine spins over quite well. Last time it ran it started a kinda of sputtering then, when I finished I cut it off. next time to start it would not start running. Found the rotor button loose, off to car quest replace, new one loose wobbles on distributor. order new one from online it wobbles on distributor. Will this cause it not to run. pionts gap coorrectly, failry new cap, and wires. Have spark at points.

As the other guy says sounds like the rotor spring clip is missing and they will not run well if at all with out it. Common to lose them when you pull off the dust cover because you need to remove it then pull the duct cover

I don't believe the missing clip is your problem, although it should be used. Take a look at the width of the metal strap on the outer end of the rotor. The spark timing will not be noticeably off.

Slip some paper or tape under the rotor sans CLP to hold it tight, then test from there.
