Yes, that's exactly what I was wondering. The (original) front axle broke in two the other day when I was using the tractor to plow snow.
I have always wondered if maybe this tractor was not a 1959. Where is the serial number on a Ford 800 so that I can look up the exact age?
Thanks.

The model number and serial number are stamped into the flat spot on the transmission bell housing just aft from an above the starter.

It's on the trans bellhousing, aft of the starter.

While you can/ might weld a break depending on location, a good used one is likely not very much money, and will be stronger

my serial# is 860- 12466 Does that mean that My tractor is 1955 Ford800?
Also what is my pto hp, I'm lookin at an Erskine 3pt. pull behind snow blower . This blower requires a minimum of 30 hp to run it.
Thanks

A new question?
When I put the tractor in reverse it makes a high pitch whine only when I'm moving . any ideas?[/quote]

860 is the model number, which means that it is part of the 800 series, specifically the 800 series model with the 5 speed transmission and live PTO.

12466 is the serial number, and yes, that makes it a 1955 model 860 tractor.

Should be around 45 PTO HP depending on which website or manual you look at.

Both my 5 speeds make the "reverse whine", not loud, just that old school whine like all old trucks etc.
