Another Ford 3000 question

Thanks for all the info about adding a hydraulic remote. Again, I'm new to tractors new enough to have hydraulics and a 3 point, so don't laugh - (All 7 of my others are pre 1945 and just a hitch pin) When I take off the cover plate to put on the remote, is there something else I need to install or is what's needed there? It's to cold to work on it now and maybe the answer will be obvious once I start but just trying to cover all bases. Thanks again

Sorry, I don't have time this morning to look thru the archives, but the answers are there. You should/will have to replace the seals under that plate. You'll have to double check, but I think the seals were same for number of yrs from before the 2000/3000/4000 series. BTW, these are flat rings, not o-rings.

There shouldn't be any surprises under there.
You can buy the oring kit from the dealer. It will have all the sizes you need plus some extras. Costs like $15 or so.
I just go to the hardware store and sort through the bins of orings and select the ones that will fit. Costs about 1/3 of what the dealer charges.
There's about 8 orings under there.
When you install the orings use brake cleaner, etc and clean the oil off the bottom of the valve. Then use a bit of grease to hold them in place as you turn the valve over to set it on the tractor. EZ
You will need to buy longer bolts too.
I think they are 7/16" coarse thread and are an odd length. Usually you have to buy them a bit too long and cut some of the threads off.
3000OH, I have gotten them from the dealer both square and round cross section. I don't think it matters much.
Here's a photo of the underside of a typical valve.

So ah, what would happen if you were to put standard round O-rings in place of the OEM rectangular profile..... you know for the sake of argument, not because anyone had actually done such a thing.

If sized correctly no problem...

Ultradog, thanks for the info about the flat & round rings. All the rings I've gotten from our dealer have been flat, and I thought I'd read somewhere on these pages years ago not to use the round ones. Yes, the round ones are way cheaper! I've give 'em a try next time. Thanks!

While I use NOS CNH rings if I have a choice because I feel the material they are/were made from is better than modern hardware store stuff..........

I do agree the shape doesn't matter much. Squished rubber is squished rubber. X-ray vision would probably show both looking the same after installation torque.

Just a guess on the square edge ones.
Probably a factory assembly line decision.
Square edge o-ring in the square edge groove would stay put better coming down the line, due to greater surface tension.
Factory line engineers look at all that stuff.
LOL...first thing they teach you in a factory....unless someone is physically caught in it and getting hamburger'd....that line does [i:ded74d6f54]not[/i:ded74d6f54] stop.

Thanks for the help - sounds like its not to big a job. I guess the first sign of getting old is to need mechanical help picking up things. Oh well - Thanks again.
