ford 4000 4cyl diesel stops running

Ford 4000 4 cylinder diesel starts and runs for 15 minutes then stops. If I wait 30 minutes it restarts runs again for 15 minutes then stops again. Anyone know how troubleshoot this kind of problem? Its a 1964 I think.

Sounds like a fuel restriction to me. Remove the line coming from the tank and make sure you have a nice steady stream.

Might bleed the air in the fuel lines. Make sure no
injectors are sticking.

Might check fuel tank cap, when engine quits remove cap to see if there is a vaccum had this on 8000, sounds like same problem. I don't know how your tank is vented, it has to be either the cap or some other means.

As Bern said, most likely a restriction. Could be screen in tank, could be the filter. it apparently runs for a little while so when checking for flow insure that you have a steady stream for AT LEAST thirty seconds.

Sounds like a flex ring issue. loosen the timing window on the side to bleed off excess pressure. If the tractor keeps running you have a a bad ring. A simple reseal will fix the problem. Should cost about 350-450 to repair. Call around and price shop. Just make sure who you pick has experience . I have seen some real expensive mistakes made by the neighbor guy who said he knew what he was doing. I would be glad to help you out if you cant find someone in your area at a fair price.
