How does a intake manifold heater work? How is it activated? Did all the Ford 3600 diesels have intake manifold heaters? On the Ford 3600 cab model, how is the interior light activated or turned on?

There's a switch for the dome light on the left front cab post for the dome light. Or at least there is supposed to be.
The thermostart was an option. It works by heating an element in the manifold. When it's hot enough, a bimetal spring allows a bit of fuel to dribble onto it, igniting the fuel. How it's activated depends on the switch. Some turn backwards to a heat position. Others you turn past the run position but not quite to the start position. Hold it there for 30 seconds or so, then crank. If it's quiet, you can hear the -poof- of the fuel igniting.

Thanks for the information on the cab interior light. I am uncertain if my tractor has the intake manifold heater. On the key switch, from the off position, the next position I don't see anything happen, then the next position the dash lights come on and the final position the tractor begins to crank.

If the full left position on the key switch is "off", then the "heat position would be halfway between where the dash lights come on and where it begins to spin the starter. There is no "position" that you can feel for the heat position, you just have to hold it there halfway between the other two positions. If you let go it will drop back to the run position.

Look at the fuel return line that goes from the injectors back to the tank. If there is a tee or a small tank in line with it and another line going from the tank or the tee to a fitting on the intake manifold, then it has a thermostart. If the return line goes directly from the injectors to the tank with nothing else in the line then you don't have that option.

Sounds the same as my 4600. You have to hold the key between the run (where the dash lights are on) and the start positions to make it heat. It won't stay there on its own.
