I have a 5200 Ford, '75. Diesel.
The oil idiot light started glowing dimly. Then it would be off for a minute at start up, then be on steady and bright constant. This all in in less than an hour of operation....
Well. That ain't good.
So I took out the sensor and screwed in a 1/4 inch pressure gauge from napa, 0-60psi.
Started up the tractor, and it shows at least 50 at idle, and goes beyond 60 at half throttle.
Holy cow.
I didn't think there was anywhere near that pressure on a well worn old engine? I just had the clutch and parts of the rear end gone through this spring, but the engine is kinda old...
So, does this make sense, or what? I'll run the engine longer and see if the pressure goes down when it warms up, but I wasn't expecting that high a pressure, just glad there is some tho!
I've had troubles with the instrument panel, (gone through three new ones in a couple hours each, the hour meter still doesn't work, and the wiring harness was melted together, had that replaced). So, I was skeptical of the oil light, is why I tried the direct gauge.
I was hoping I didnt have zero oil pressure, but getting 50 plus is a surprise to me as well......
