FORD 3600 3 point not working

My 3600 3 point is not working. The tractor has a small leak and the oil level must have got to low. The lift worked a few weeks ago. I have filled it back up with oil but no lift. I cracked open the fitting on the right side of the tractor and no oil pressure. I took the screw out of the the pump and a small bit of oil came out. Can the the pump loose its prime? [/b]

Is this a gear type pump with the filter on it?
To start with I would install a new filter on it.
If that doesn't work I would closely inspect the suction line for any rust holes or punctures. And inspect the ends where they slip into the pump and rear end.
If you have air entering the system it wont prime.
I have been told here that the gear pumps do not need to be bled like the old piston pumps did.
The suction inlet on that tractor is located way deep in the bottom of the rear end so you would have had to run it completely out of oil for it to stop pumping. That means 5 or 6 gallons low.

Hmmm,
3600 should have a gear pump with a filter on it.
3000 would have a piston pump.
Are you sure of what tractor you have?
A piston can be a PIA to bleed sometimes.
Put a pan under it and crack the plug. Start the engine and let it idle till all the bubbles are eliminated and you get a clear flow of oil. Then retighten the plug.

Something simple to check...

Make sure you don't have a lever for an auxiliary connection locked open. 3 Point won't function when that is the case. I know from personal experience, spent a week or more thinking I was headed for a major repair. The feeling when you find something like that is kind of a combination of embarrassment, stupid, glee..

Good Luck,

Thanks for information guys. I worked on the
tractor this weekend and got the fluid back into
the pump. The lift works good. The only problem is
now when I try to PTO in gear with blower hooked
up it will not go into gear. I have turn the
tractor off and put the PTO and gear and start the
tractor with PTO running. Before I had the 3 point
problem the PTO would shift in fine.

Glad to hear you got the 3 point working again.

The PTO should not be affected by the hydraulic system at all on a 3600. It sounds like you have live PTO with the dual stage clutch and the PTO clutch disk is sticking. I think it is just a coincidence that it happened at the time that the 3 point issue was resolved. You could try blocking the clutch pedal down while it's parked for a few days to see if that helps get it unstuck.
