Darned key start diesels

Went out to start the 4400 today and realized I had forgot to turn the key off the last time I used it.
AGAIN!
Battery's dead. Grrr
Had to put another battery in to use it.
I think I prefer my 3000D that has no wires on it at all except the battery cables. Short it with a linch pin on the solenoid.
Live and learn - slowly.
At least it wasn't a gasser so I didn't burn the points and coil :)

You need a switch from a Massey diesel. The switch is always off except when starting. But then you will also need a oil pressure switch to turn on electricity for your gauges.

The glowing red Generator and Oil Pressure lights on the dash (kind of like a double Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer) remind me to turn the key OFF on my 5000 after I shut it down.

BTDT!!! It's not so much the key start diesels as the diesels that shut off with a separate fuel shut-off! Which brings up a joke dad and grandpa played on me when they got the 961d home. Tell me to go shut off the tractor, ( I was like 7...) I go turn the key off and it don't shut off. Oh no! Turn key on, off starting to look scared, what did I do? Till I look over and they were laughing their rears off!

absent-minded here too...
I routinely wire in a very bright light somewhere to remind me.
Being a diesel, you could wire in a small buzzer/chime.
You'd never hear it when the engine is running, but would when you shut it off.

I always pull a battery cable when parked, so no worries.
It was annoying to have to raise the hood on my 5000 to do it though.
So, I did the stud/wingnut thing down where the neg cable hooks to the starter. Only takes a second now.....

The only key start tractor I have is a Kubota. I'm not smart enuf to figure out how the turning the key off shuts it down. Must be an electric switch that cuts off the fuel pump. There is also a fuel shut off lever that I have never used?
