Started this morning splitting the tractor in my friend's shop. We made much more progress than I thought we would.

The engine in this tractor suffered a double crankshaft breakage between 1 and 2 this summer. Today, we discovered a bent pushrod and evidence of 2 hitting a valve. The head appears to be okay, which is good, as it is going to need to go onto the replacement engine.

Here are a few photos from the day's work.

Looks like good progress! Sucks to have to do it,
but you'll have a great tractor when your done.

The replacement engine. This was used in a U of MN lab and had various sensors on it, including this sensor that goes through the head. If I understand correctly, this sensor was used to measure compression.

You can see that there's very few hours on this engine by the lack of burned oil on the rocker shaft.

We will replace the head on this engine with the head on the damaged engine due to some compromising of the water jacket where the sensor was installed.

I like that nifty rolling splitting stand! I've never seen anything like it. It has to be far better than muscling the front around like I have always done it..

Yo are more manly than me.

when i had the front off my farmall C I did that. IE. manhandled the front pedistal and wheels to move it out of the way. Sheesh.. figured I was gonna damage 'the boys' doing that.

I rememebr puttingit back together and having he wife out there to poke the bolts thru the holes while i nudged it into position. That or call EMS if it fell on me. :)

Splitting car is very cool! NFs are a PIA to split but that would make it much easier.
One thing I will say about your technique is your bottle jack gives me the creeps.
As I've mentioned here before, go to Home Despot and buy a 6X6 and cut it into pieces.
Nothing is as safe as wood cribbing.

The cart was built by our now-closed machine shop for the IH dealer here in town (now also closed). It sure made moving that front end easier!

Yeah it's kind of like handling a loaded 15.5x38

I have a 13.6-28 I need to work up the steam and break down to retune right now... Not looking forward to it as much as I used to

Thanks for the reminder! I just bought two loaded 13.6 x 28's
on spin out rims. Seller loaded them for me with his loader and
the tire shop unloaded them on my way home so they could deal
with draining and dismounting. I need to go pick them up! :)
