When I purchased my 3000 Select-O-Speed, it was inoperative in speeds 3,4,7,8,10, and R2. Following the procedures in the shop manual, I attempted to adjust Band 1, but the adjusting screw met no resistance. I think the likeliest cause is a dropped strut.
The shop manual for the pre-’65 DDC SOS details a procedure by which the strut can be replaced through the servo opening, using a dab of grease to hold the strut in position. The manual for the 3000, however, makes no mention of this possibility, nor does it outline a procedure for replacing the o-ring on Servo 1, as provided in the earlier manual.
If I have a dropped strut, I don't suppose I have anything to lose by removing Servo 1. Still, I thought I'd ask.
Has anyone tried replacing a strut through the Servo 1 opening of either transmission?
