New Holland TS 100 Shuttle Shift Problem

I have a NH TS 100 that it is almost impossible to engage the shuttle for desired direction. The shift lever moves freely but does not pick up the direction, eveventualy it will go into forward or reverse. The whole time you are trying to get into a gear the indication on dash still displays "N". Does anyone have an idea of what is the problem and aprox cost to fix. Thanks for your time

Since you stated seeing an N indicated on the display, I must assume your tractor is computer controlled. It must be either a 16 X 16 or 32 X 32 speed, correct? Does the N finally disappear when a diection is eventually engaged? Before this started, how many levers had to be engaged before the N was gone? Was it only the shuttle, or did the range(or four speed) need to be in gear? Does the shuttle feel normal, meaning can you feel the detent engage with the usual resistance whether the gears engage or not or does the shift just feel mushy. I assume there are no error codes displayed, yes no? A couple things come to mind: 1 you may have a worn syncronizer on the shuttle(lever and fork are moving but collar and synchro simply don"t engage. If this is the case, you will feel some jerk or attempt at movement when clutch pedal is released at some time or other. 2 you may have a status switch or related wiring issue. There are status switches on each shift rail(similar to a neutral switch). The computer monitors them so it knows what speed and range the tractor is in to adjust the selected clutch pack fill times for smoother shifts. If it doesn"t see the proper readings it may think one lever is still in neutral, and will not engage the clutch packs. No code will be displayed. 3 a bad controller is always a possibility, but the last option to explore(unless you have a friend with an identical tractor you can trade with for a test). Does any of this make any sense? A bit more history and detail of the problem might help narrow it down.

Harry thanks for the info you provided. The tractor is a 1998 or 1999 I was told. It has a 4 speed transmission with a Low-Med- High range. The tractor ha a ditch bank mower on it so it is a good assumption the shuttle was used a good bit, therefore makes it look like the problem is the fork. Thanks again for info

MY ts100 would not go into gear with the shuttle shift I bought a new cable because I could see it moving on top the transmission under the cab come to find out their are two bolts that hold it to the housing they had fallen and were still laying there NH said this is a common problem

The problem you describe sounds just like what is happening to my 2005 TS100A with 16x16 electronic gear shift. (3200hrs)

At the moment, if I select gear 5 from Gear 4, then gear 5 fails to select and after a few seconds the N neutral displays on the dash.

This problem started recently with gear 5 being slow to select and then eventually not selecting at all. I then found that if I drove around in the lower gears for a while, gear 5 may select ok. However, the problem has become progressively worse so that now gear 5 will not select at all.

The same applies when selecting gear 13 from 12.

Any ideas?

Regards

Peter
