So I need to do the repair that's posted on my leaky fuel shutoff valve. Question is do I need to remove the gas tank to do so, or can i get a bent screwdriver in there and remove the shutoff valve without taking the tank off?

Thanks everyone!

just take your time, you can remove, repair and install with tank on. My first time took about 1 1/2 hours , figuring it all out.

You can remove the valve without removing the
tank. The biggest problem is getting the fuel line
loose.

You may have to remove the valve cover to get more
room.

You can R & R the fuel shut off valve without removing the sheet metal and tank.

Upon reassembly, replace the slotted head screws with OEM hex bolts so that you can use a 5/16 combination wrench next time.

Do yourself a favor and use the correct CNH O-ring upon reassembly and do not over tighten the bolts.

you can take a 12 point 7/16 wrench and cut the end out to allow you to slip it over the fuel line to remove it. Just cut out enough to let it slip over the line. of course if you have the large line use a 1/2 wrench.

You can gain a little room by loosening the mount nut for the front of the tank and you can also, as tractor guy 2 says, roll the valve cover out of the way

I've ground and bent a couple long end wrenchs pain to do, getting good at it now, I can't seem to get tham to last as long as original (45 yrs)

Agreed.

I've become so good at this that I can now do it in 30 minutes or so.

I spend more time draining and replacing the fuel than R & Riing the valve.

I use only a 5/16" combination wrench and a 7/16" or 1/2" (cannot remember) open end wrench. Nothing special.
