I went back to the Dealer for more parts and had the cap with me. He had a 641 on the lot and fit loose on it also, so he started the tractor up and about 15 minutes the tractor died. Took the cap off for a minute or so and the tractor started once again. He than said another customer bought one back also, said the same thing happened him. He gave me a Tisco cap and fits snag and tractor keeps running now. First one was from A&I.

Hard to believe that the fuel tank would vacuum lock in 15 minutes unless the tractor was working hard and the fuel tank was nearly full.

That said, the cap must be vented.

I don't see how it can fit loose and still cause a n air lock problem. Sounds more like it is a non vented 8n cap.
