Fuel shuttoff valve o-ring sizes?

It has been a number of years since I performed Texas!'s modification on my fuel valve so the size of the o-rings required escapes my memory and my (cough cough) filing system for that kind of information is, shall we say, less than adequate as of late.

I was mowing this past weekend and the SOS came to a sputtering stop for no apparent reason. Felt like out of fuel, yet I had just filled the tank up. Reached up under the tank and the valve had no resistance to turning. I spent the rest of afternoon trying to keep electrical tape jammed around it to keep it open (use what you have handy and get the job done).

As loose as the stem is it is not leaking, much to my surprise, so new o-rings are in order. I have an o-ring kit somewhere in the shop but it has some age on it. Any particular material to avoid since we are talking about it seeing 10% ethanol gas at times, but only when I know I am going to be running it most of the way out, at which point I refill with non-alky fuel if it si gonna sit.

Any help most appreciated.

Can't help you on size, I just match up with ones out of a multi kit. I like the nitrile irings, have used them on Hyds, gas/e-15, and diesel.

Best of luck

Looks like I will have to find/dig out the multi-kit, drain the tank, and see what sizes fit.

I do believe the ones in there now are out of that same kit so I may have a lifetime supply on hand. But since it has been 6-7 years since I lined the tank and it may have been several years before that when I fixed the shutoff it may be a once-every-10-year fix.

I know for a fact that a standard O-ring works. I went to my local NAPA store and took the old ring to compare to the selection they had. Matched them right up. Old one (in a brand new fuel valve), had a huge amount of flash on the parting line (from the mold it was made from), which resulted in not-so-good sealing. I'd go Viton over Nitrile rubber for better resistance to alcohols.

.

from a post I made...

used a -009 ring for the replacement,,, it was not as tight as I wanted it but did not leak so went to my AC o-ring kit and found one fatter Captive #108 (AC o-ring mite not be EZ to locate),,,

#009 = 1/16 X 7/32 X 11/32 Seems to fit quite well, lots of drag, but more importantly no leaky.

I have the bullet nose rounded cone sealing end and a fairly wide stop slot on this one. I am pretty sure it is a replacement valve as the screen in the tank is in good shape.
