wheel weights

I sold a couple of 40# Ford pie weights to a fella in Maine. UPS lost one. Both shipped same day, same place. UPS will cover up to $100 in value BUT, They seem to think I have to have a part number on an invoice to verify the value. Any body know where I can find a part number for Ford pie weights ? Might be some counterfeiting go on before we get this settled.

The number looks to be 230953. I have a reprint so The page I have is a little blurry, the 5 maybe a 6 or 8. even though it looks like a 5 to me I can't be a 100% sure.

put it in Paint Shop, enlarged, applied sharpen filter & it sure looks like a 5 to me.

Thanks fellas, that gives me some grounds to go from. We shall see what happens from here on.

Just curious, did you ship them packaged? or loose with stickers on the weights. I have done the latter with large cumbersome parts. Some discussions here have made me wonder if UPS still offers that type of shipping.

I had packaged them. UPS puts their own sticker on the package, with a tracking number. Was told locally at a UPS pickup, that is better to be packaged. Am wandering!!

Can't help with current situation, but for future reference if the USPS still has their "if it fits, it ships" boxes an industrial version 40 lb pie weight segment will fit in a box. I bought four segments and had them shipped that way fairly for a reasonable cost.

Priority Mail medium flat rate box (any weight up to 70 lbs) will hold a 30 pounder for sure, and it goes anywhere in the US for about $12. They provide the boxes for free. Bigger ones might fit, too, never tried it. Makes the mailman grumpy, but it's their idea. Definitely the cheapest way to send a heavy chunk of iron.

When I shipped a big injection pump I bolted it to a piece of plywood and built a box around the whole thing with wooden spacers screwed inside.
