I had to beat the pistons out of the stuck engine. Installed new rings and bearings. Cleaned everything up. Wire brushed the head made sure valves were moving. It now has a miss ran compression test all cylinders pump up to 150. #2 bleeds off quickly I added some oil and it held. Sounds like a bad valve any suggestions beyond taking the head off?

If you added some oil to the cylinder and the compression held that would be the rings are bad. The oil is causing the rings to seal, if you still lost pressure it would be the valve seats are bad.

I honed the cylinders and they looked pretty good. It misses when not under load. I just added some seafoam to the gas and drove until I got too cold thanks guys

have you checked the regular stuff.. timing, advance, and carb... does a lil choke help with it starts to miss?

Choke will kill it new Coil plugs, wires, points condensor, Rebuilt the holly carb. The govenor seems to be very loose and when it misses it seems to get lost.I need to mark the timing mark and set it. The exhaust does run hot.

yoU SAY Number 2 has 150 but bleeds off quickly?

That should run and fire ok at it does not have to hold for long... but

rings are a bit worn, or ring gap is excessive, or cyl are worn, or cheap ridge reamer took too much off at top of cyl and got down into ring seal area. especially critical on diesels...

You are right Bern. Maybe The bleed off valve was stuck. I added oil and it pumped up to 150 and stayed there until I released it 2 hours later.
