OT: Ford Tri-Motor

Texas!

The EAA's Ford Tri-Motor has been in Texas for the past few weeks and it's in Georgetown (where I got my Private Pilot License 33 years ago) this weekend. I went over today and paid an extra $55 to sit in the right seat.
What a Blast From The Past!

What an awesome piece of history!
What would you think about flying it yourself?
I ask because when I look at antique cars, some I'd like to drive.
Others I think are better off with me just looking! LOL

The EAA pilot made the takeoff and landing but I flew the "sightseeing" leg. I'd love to get checked out as PIC in it but I know that won't happen.

Ah, memories. I got to fly one when I was 14 years old and remember it very well. It is logged as dual multi engine instruction in my first log book and I am very fond of that entry.

Interestingly enough, EAA auctioned off a checkout in a B-17 earlier in the year. If I recall, it only required the winner to hold a valid private pilot certificate and multi-engine rating. A higher level medical might have been required too, but I'm not positive. Commercial wasn't needed nor was IFR if I recall. Proceeds went to the Young Eagles or some other EAA program. Don't ask what the winning bid was, but I bet it was a couple thousand.

So perhaps a Tri-Motor isn't too impossible!
