55 Ford 800 Fuel tank removal

I am attempting to get my grandfathers 55 800 running again. After sitting in a barn for 20 years she's a rusty old soul.

I have removed the sheet metal and the two back tank bolts plus the left front bolt. I do not understand how to remove the center bolt. It appears to have spring on it.

Any advice would be appreciated.

On my 600 and NAA I didn't need to remove it.
The tank was slotted and just pushed backward off the bolt.
I suspect the 800 is the same.

Thanks Royse. I never thought it would be that easy. I'll try that
tomorrow. Thanks for the quick reply.

I gave the tank a slight push and it was ready to lift. Now the problem is 20 years of gasoline and the varnish it created.

I'm thinking of using carb cleaner and letting it soak for a few days. Is there a better product to remove the junk

I'm with Dean on that one. Acetone is much cheaper too.
Or lacquer thinner if you happen to have a 5 gallon can
near by. Rust or just the gunk from old gas? Rust can be
a bear and may require relining or replacing the tank.

It's a very thick sludge. If you scrape a bit of it with a long flat
head screw driver the material will not run off of the tool.

I'll try the Acetone, and let you know the result.

Thanks again.
