4000 Front Wheel Hubs

What would cause this on BOTH hubs? I pulled the seals and cups and found this damage. Never had an indication of any problem. Ordered new bearing sets from this site but now wondering if I need to replace both hubs now that I have them dismantled? Tractor only sees snow and a blade about 1/2 dozen times a year along with a couple food plots in spring. What do you think?

Cant tell what I am seeing.. did you already remove the bearing race? did someone cut a notch in the hub to drive out a damage race? If you can get both race's out and replace them.. the hub might be useable.. again, I cant tell from the picture at to what is damaged and where.

Yup, both races are out. That's just the bare hub. They were in there tight too. No play at all. Had to drive them out.

You want to throw those hubs out, I'll pay the
shipping to my place. I don't see anything that
scares me.

"What would cause this on BOTH hubs?"

Would you believe that the factory put those "notches" there so that you can get a punch on the back side of the bearing race to drive it out?
If those notches weren't there you'd have to run a weld bead all the way around the race to shrink it so that it would fall out.

There are two notches in each hub to assist in removing the races., but it looks like someone got a little carried away with a punch and hammer. Usually the notches are smooth edged. Am wandering if a NCA 1190 A seal will fit in the hub in the second picture. A NCA 1190 A seal is to fit tight in the hub and seal on the flange of the axle. The second hub looks as though the seal used was tight on the axle and sealed in the hub. Maybe the picture is deceiving me. It seams as thou I remember NH having seals like I described. I never cared for them
