Interchanging steering box on 8N ford

Need some advice....

I need to change a steering gearbox on my 48 8N. Wanting to go with a later model steering box, I understand in general that they are interchangeable.

I've found a steering box from a Jubilee. It looks pretty similar in hookup, does anyone know if I can interchange a 48 8N gearbox with a Jubilee?

I've never tried to swap them myself, so I can't say for sure.
I do know the Jube steering has additional mounting plates on
it that wouldn't be used on an 8N, but I don't know that they
would be in your way. I thought the Jube was taller too.
I have both out here, I'll take a closer look and take some
measurements tomorrow if you don't get a good answer.

The vertical tube and shaft are about and inch longer on an NAA as opposed to and 8N. Also the NAA tube is designed to attach the voltage regulator on it, thus hindering the 8N dash from sliding over the shaft. The worm shaft the tube will in interchange, providing that the 8N shaft is good since the top bearing on the shaft is usually the fault in the steering box

Thanks, I'd appreciate it. Just sitting in the guy's field, I thought the two looked awfully similar. I know I'd have to cut the dash to fit the bump in the case for the pitman gears, but don't know if I would have worse trouble trying to get my dash to fit back on.

Yeah I think that's my experience. I only used it two times after having it rebuilt and it popped loose. I can now turn my steering wheel one full turn to the left before it engages.

The shaft rises 3/4 inch when I turned the wheel, so I know it's got to be the top bearing that came apart.

No problem, I'll get them after work tonight. John Smith also has
some pictures of them side-by-side on his web site here.
If you ask this question on the 9N/2N/8N forum here on YT
he (and others) may answer your question directly as well.

Looks to me like the bolt pattern lines up ok.
The Jube steering is definitely taller, an inch or more.
The ears the jube has on it to mount the under dash cowl
are wider than the 8N gearbox. I put the hood back on my
8N before I remembered to measure that part.
If you had a later model 8N dash, it might fit over the rear
hump of the Jubilee gear box without modification.
Again, never tried it myself.
