I have a bunch of replies to my diesel hold down question that implied there's a lot of people with the same dilemma I had. The original mounting system really don't work well on modern batteries, that's even if you can find one still around. I made a battery hold down that works from top down instead of bottom up. It's easy to make and bolts to the existing hole in the gas tank mount. It can be customized to the battery size and removes easily. You just have to elongate the mounting hole so there's enough play in to remove it.

That looks like a very good idea. You should talk to this site about carrying them and you build them.
