Engine Swap: 3910 engine into a 3000

I have a 1973 3000 diesel with a bad engine. My nephew found a 3910 engine from the mid-80's. Will it fit? Thanks,

Yes. Just about the biggest differences will be the
need to enlarge the temp sender port from 1/4" to 3/8" NPT and minor tweaks to fuel supply tubes and
throttle linkage.

Yes. They are a direct swap.
About the only other thing I can add to Rick's advice is the intake manifolds are slightly different so you'll need to contrive a different boot where the air tube enters the manifold.
I went to Napa and looked at heater hoses till I found one the right diameter with about the right bend to it.
Then brought it home and cut the curved section out.
The hose had the spiral wire in it so I cut a piece of that and installed it to keep the tube from collapsing.
I think a 3610 engine is a 192ci vs 175 in a 3000 so you'll get a bump in hp.

Exhaust manifold is also different. 3910 exits nearer the front of the tractor. You'll need to reuse the one from the 3000. Or cut a new hole in your tin...which I personally wouldn't do.

Actually... he'd need to simply bush the temp sender down. The head will already be 3/8 pipe on the 10 engine. He'd need to bush down to 1/8 pipe for a 3000 vintage sender if he intends to use original instruments.

Thank all of you for the advice. It was very helpful and much appreciated. I'm still waiting to hear if my nephew has bought the engine. If he did so, I'll post a note on how it comes out.
