I bought a gasoline Ford tractor. It has been repainted and the decal says 801 Powermaster. It's a 4-speed transmission. So is it an 841? And what's the best way to determine?

From the description it sounds like an 841. (or 821, etc)
On the flat spot just aft of the starter the model and serial
number should be stamped into the transmission housing.
Not 100% because the trans could have been changed out.
but it's about the best way I know of to start off with.

Most likely an 841 but there where 2 other models like the 821 and 831. The most common one is the 841. Just behind the starter is two bolt holes. On the flat area above those holes it the model and serial number. and will look sort of like this
8 4 1
^%^(%*&(

801 is the series number. 841 is the model number. There are 8 different models, by my count, in the 801 series. 841 is one of them.
