Tw 5 dual power shifts slow

I just bought this tractor and it shifts slow 3-5 seconds from
turtle to hare. It takes the same time for the hydraulics to react
on the gauge I plumed in low pressure hyds. It shifts perfectly
from hare to turtle. Light changes immediately on dash both
ways. It does not seem to slip when pulling a manure spreader
in either turtle or hare. Hyd tests on low pressure side were
195 psi for turtle 195 for hare 195 for diff lock 190 for pto. I am
guessing it needs the dual power solenoid. Am I on the right
track? It looks like Bern is not too impressed with the tw5. I
hope to make it work. It also has a fuel problem, but I will start
another post. Thanks for any advise!

I would be more inclined to think that the intake strainer for the pump is getting plugged with crap... that is how they behave when the plug anyway. Slow to shift; slow to build pressure... but as long as it's not leaking in a big way it will hold pressure.
I'm not exactly sure on a TW pump but on 10 series pumps there was a plastic square head plug in the rear portion of the pump housing with an intake strainer attached. Remove and inspect/clean. If it's full of crap, something is coming apart...

The TWx5 series certainly had their issues....

The intake screen for the trans pump is internal and cannot be accessed without splitting the tractor. I'm more inclined to think that you have a plugged screen inside the DP control valve inlet fitting. That would explain the slow shifts, but good pressures.

I will take a look at it tomorrow. That is a good tip as I do not see that screen called out in the repair manual. I'm glad you have the experience getting into these things. Thanks for sharing Bern.

Item #23 is what you're looking for. Look closely INSIDE the screen. Dig around with a pick if you need to, but make sure it's hollow and clean.

Well I took apart the line that Bern called out and there was no strainer at all. I took apart the DP shifting valve and it looked ok. I bought a new solenoid which meant I had to buy the valve (almost $500 including gasket). Solenoid was not available separate. Anyway it shifts perfectly now. I used it to pick corn today. It's a little big to run the picker. It will sure be nice to have a mfwd tractor this winter to haul manure. Thanks everyone for the help.
