Can I use this governor

Just got a replacement governor for my 1949 8n and may appear to have the wrong governor. My old governor did not have the proofmeter, the new one does. Can I use the new governor since I will not be hooking up a proofmeter anyway? There is a cap where the cable should go, so, hopefully it'll seal the oil and I'll have no problem.

Yep. Proof meters were optional and not everyone had one. That governor was made to supply a proof meter.

Reason for the cap is for machines without a proof meter.

Thank you for the input. I was mainly concerned if there was any mechanical reason I couldn't use the governor: different size gears, shaft, bearings, throttle connectors, etc. If it's the same governor except the option for proofmeter linkage, then I will just use the new one.

Post over in the 8N section. You have a good bunch of folks there that have many years behind the workings of an 8N.

Just curious why did you think you needed a new governor there a bit pricey
