871 Ford proof meter cable

I have an 871 sos and have had it for years. Suddenly I have the desire to put in a proof meter and the cable is missing. Obviously one end goes to the meter and I think the other end goes to the back of the hydraulic pump. Is that correct? If so is there anything tricky about installing the cable at that point? Somewhere I read that there is a bolt that sometimes is broken inside?

look at the nd of the pump and see if the drive end has a lil bushing and is spinning when engine turns over or is running.

Thanks for the info. I have another question about the sos. Is there a filter for the fluid that runs the sos and is the fluid from the same reservoir as the hydraulic pump?

They are separate sumps (trans and hydraulics), and there was a filter inside the S-O-S transmission on the return line to the sump, but they are currently unavailable. Tony Jacobs (a member here) is working on a deal with a filter manufacturer to produce them in small batches. Last we heard he had a prototype and was in final negotiations, but that was a month or more ago.

Just lil all other fords from 53-64, trans is its own sump separate from Hyds, separate from rear end.

At this point ill advise you to get the SOS manual supplement that's fits your trans ( orc / ddc )

Yes, there is a filter.. But, finding a new one will be hard
