Introducing me and my tractors to you.

I've lurked on this forum for a long time. And about 13 years ago I was a registered user, but I have since then forgotten my user name, etc.

Anyway, I have a 1957 860 that runs like a champ, but it is getting a hydraulic pump rebuild when I find the time. My other tractor is a 1981 5600 Blue Power Special. The 5600 needs a new complete seat and hardware. The previous owner replaced the original one with one of those Tractor Supply Company universal seats.

I found one for $189 shipped.

Is there a cheaper or better seat available?

Thanks,
Gil

That is a pretty low price so I would not expect too much. I bought one in the same price range about four years ago and it is still in very good shape. This tractor stays indoors though and works only on weekends pulling a transfer sled. It is my understanding that the plastic on these is very sensitive to sunlight so you would want to keep it covered if you want to get a few years out of it. Welcome back.

Welcome back.
I can't tell you much about the quality or longevity of that seat. I bought a new/used bucket like that one this summer from a guy who boogered up the suspension and sold the whole thing off cheap. Ask me again in a few years.
As for the one on Ebay, the price does seem a bit high considering it's an unknown commodity to most of us here. Many guys just buy another cheap one from TSC, etc and use that.
You could buy two of those (almost) for the price of the one on ebay.
