transmission spline count

Looking for a Sherman Hi/Lo for my early 53 Jubilee. I would like to have one on hand before I split the tractor for a clutch change. Do I have a 10 or 15 spline shaft? I have seen both advertised as fitting a Jube.

Many many years ago I ran into that with my 841S. Found that the combo I had was the fine spline and the replacement I found was course. So had to go with a smaller clutch disk but that was well over a decade ago

I'm hoping John Smith sees your post.
He would certainly know the answer to your question better
than I. You can find his contact information on his website here.
I see them for sale on eBay for $400 to $950.
Makes me wonder if the high priced guys are being honest.

Yeah, the prices run the gambit. I notice that the $900 ones don't sell. I saw one that had a reasonable starting bid of $350 but people got into a frenzy and bid it up to almost $800 plus shipping. There is one on this website for $675 including shipping. I am willing to pay that but the gentleman has not responded to several emails.

I've also been watching them for the better part of a year, and agree with you that the high dollar ones don't sell. $675 shipped seems reasonable.

However, you need to ask the seller to get close-up pics of the bearing surface of the output shaft. Meaning, the surface where the tapered roller bearing resides where it plugs into the old transmission. It's plainly visible to the seller, and often pitted or chewed up bad. As of a few months ago, those shafts were impossible to find.....if you get one really bad. However, sometimes the old one may be able to be machined. Just something to keep an eye out for.

The Fords including the Jubilee are 10 spline from '39 to '57. The "01" series tractors from '57 and up are 15 spline. You can swap a Sherman 10 spline input shaft and nose cone for the 15 spline input shaft and nose cone since the Shermans are the same except for those 2 pieces. You cannot simply swap clutch disks in your tractor to fit a mismatched Sherman. The throwout bearing location and the spline location on the 10 and 15 spline inputs is too different for that to work.
