I have an 860. When I fill the radiator all the way, it will overflow until the fluid is just above the core. It runs well and will do work. Am curious why this is happening.

In modern cars with coolant recovery systems, what you are doing is correct. In cars and tractors without a recovery system, not so.
Just covering the core is where the fluid level should be.
Remember the fluid expands as it gets hot. The fluid needs some where to go. That is why there is a large tank at the top of these old radiators.

Took me a long time to get used to doing it right. I just felt
compelled to fill her up all the way. I even put a gallon jug in front
of the radiator on my car with the overflow drain in it; dumping it
back in when it got full.
Course I was young and stupid at the time. Some things just took
awhile to sink in.
