641 paint color choices thoughts and advice

Still learning about my newly acquired '59 641. I figured out, fairly easily attaching the front loader that came with it and the hydraulics and hoses. All of which were unattached with exception of a couple, and rerouted a couple hoses because they weren't hooked up right from PO.

Nevertheless, I am having a ball learning this tractor and sort of returning to my childhood(grew up on small 32 acre farm with dad's Case dc4).

Having serious thoughts about a restore on this 641 in the next year or two(need it to do some work for me first) and have had some thoughts about the paint scheme.

I have read and seen many pictures of 641's with that orangish tint of the Ford red, which seems to be the original color, even though I prefer the darker red like what the Dearborn red offers.

I know this might hurt a few classic and traditional folks, but I have also considered going in a completely different direction. Bear with me as I explain this.

You see, I am a Detroit Lions fan through and through. Have been my whole life. My image for this tractor was to have the engine, tranny, axles and all under belly stuff done in as close as I can get to a Honolulu Blue, with the hood, wheels, fenders and such in Silver. Another version is to make it all blue with just the fenders and wheels silver, keeping with how it is now with all red.

I have some decals in mind of the Lion logo for on the wheels and for the hood.

Ok, that's it. Just wondering what anyone else's thoughts might be on this.

First, as a Michigander, let me apologize to you for being a
Lions' victim, errr, fan. LOL
As far as the tractor goes, it's your tractor, paint it any color
you want! There are several out there done similarly and
some guys trying to sell them for double the price for doing it!
Have fun with it, be safe and post some pictures! :)

Paint it any color you like (except JD green).
Just keep in mind that the colors you paint it might
not appeal to the masses and may hurt your resale
value down the road, unless selling to another lions
fan.

I was trying to upload a pic of my 901. It will select but not upload. I agree with Kirk. Last Friday just before waking up in a cold sweat I had a nightmare that someone had given me a JD R.

 Colin, I'd take the [b:1d42a0be24]gift[/b:1d42a0be24] of a JD "R" just for the uniqueness of the dang thing!
Dave

Thanks for the thoughts. I know that a Lions tractor might be a hard sell in the future, but I am not planning on selling it. It will be used to plow snow in the U.P. and for small farm work. Still, want it to look nice for the occasional parade.

Would post a pic or three, but still learning this forum and I don't have any online place for the pictures. No facebook or anything like that, not interested in it either.

One thing I didn't count on with the tractor is the seat height. It came with the Knoedler spring seat, and being 6'3", I had to make a change so I would stop kneeing myself in the chin whenever I needed to step on the clutch or brake.

As a Lions fan, I would never paint anything JD green and yellow....Too much like GB's colors, and I can't have that!!!
