4500 injector pump removal timing questions

Have a 66' ford 4500 TLB that run okay but the injector pump is dripping constantly so thought I would install a seal kit in it. Don't have a manual so I'm kind of doing it of a wing and prayer. I'm sure someone out there has done this before and was wondering if after removing the 3 bolts from the pump to front motor housing if there is a good way to mark the gears so it stays with the same timing. Not sure if you can partially slide the pump out and mark the gears, or if there is even room. Anyone out there have any good suggestions?
 
A rotary pump is very simple.
Have a look at the photo. Notice the lines on the front block plate and the line on the pump.
If you haven't removed the pump yet, notice what line it is indexed to. Usually at 0 or a little below.
Remove the small cover on the front of the timing cover.
Inside are 3 bolts that hold the gear onto the pump shaft. Gear is indexed to the shaft - only goes back on one way.
The gear is held captive by the timing cover - means it can not skip a tooth.
Again, Very easy job to R&R the pump.

Thanks Ultradog, but never having done this before I don't quite understand your description. I know about the timing marks, but my question is, if I remove the three bolts from the gear that are under the inspection cover and then remove the three pump bolts, what will keep the gear from just falling out? (You say that gear is held in place by inspection cover, but you have me removing that plate.

Will the gear need a puller to break it loose?
 
I could have used a different term for the small cover. Yours is better - call it an inspection cover.
But I did say the gear is held captive by the timing cover.
Have all the injector lines off, remove the 3 bolts that hold the pump to the engine, then with the inspection cover off remove the 3 bolts on the gear.
The pump will slip out the back and the gear can't lose time.
You'll see how the shaft is indexed to the gear.
Very simple.
If you could post a thread of what you are doing to the pump I and likely others here would appreciate it.
