Ford 600 Running Rough

My 600 starts fine and idles fine but at higher throttle settings it runs rough. Kinda sounds like the cyllinders are loaded up but I've noticed that I can twist the distributor counterclockwise a few degrees and it runs better. Not like it should, but better.

I'm assuming that's where my problem is but I don't know if there is an adjustment I can make or if I need to replace the distributor, points, etc.

I'm not much of a mechanic but willing to listen and try things.

I haven't washed it.. I'll do that but it looks pretty good. Since it runs better when I turned the distributor I have been thinking along the lines of ignition.

Yes, lack of advance can cause a motor to run poorly at higher RPMs and removal of the plate that the points mount on will reveal if the advance is stuck, or stiff. My point with the air cleaner is that on any of these old tractors the air cleaner can be badly plugged with oily dust, while the cup that looks like it is from a tractor that is right off the assembly line. You really need to remove the air cleaner to tell for sure. A motor can't run at higher RPMs without good air flow.
