Is it worth it?

I'm looking at a "64" Ford 4000 which needs the tank flushed and carb cleaned to get it running according to the owner.
1) Is there any way to take a small gas can, to by-pass tank, and see if it will fire up?
2) Also would there be a "big" advantage to buying this tractor for more power over the Ford 850 I already have?
3) Asking price is $1500 as is.
4) Or would an Ford 841 diesel be better?
Thanks

Lots of us have a small tank for just that purpose.
An old steel tank from a Briggs, Lauson or Techumseh
Is nice for the cool factor but any 2 qt tank will
suffice.
The hp difference between the the 2 machines will be
hard to even notice but the 4000 will use noticeably
more fuel.

Thanks Ultra I appreciate it. Guess I'll keep my money, besides it not running maybe there's other problems.

As ud said, small lawnmower tank works great, this is my 63 4000

guys have you covered on the temp tank.
any ol thing will do.
If you decide not to buy, and it is advertized someplace, I'd like to see a link.
a 4000 for 1500 is a bit unusual up here, even for a non-runner. Curious on overall condition.
If it is truly a 64 , with the 4 cyl gas engine, it basically IS your 850, with a tiny bit more compression.
If you are looking for more muscle, keep looking.
(a 5000 Ford has some muscles..gas or diesel..) :)
