The lack of live PTO make it about the only ones with there own engine. I have baled thousands of bales wit ha 841 in years past and it was the pits due to lack of live PTO. Plus a baler will make it like riding a rocking horse

I use a NH268 with my 861. Having the live pto really helps when you need to stop the tractor to let the baler catch up on a heavy windrow. If you made light windrows and carried a lot of shear bolts with you it is possible to do without the live pto. Old is right about the rocking horse ride.

I've seen u-tube videos of 8N's running a Ford 530 and a NH 65 with no problems. Would these balers be a good fit for an 841?

any of those might work. However, they'll be hard pressed to work well on a transmission with as high a 1st gear as an 841. To say nothing of the fact that the non-live PTO will be almost impossible to manage unless your windrows are very light.

+1 on the NH 268. I have one that I use regularly with my 641, and I haven't had any problems yet. The main thing is to not make huge windrows, and be ready to knock iyour tractor out of gear if you see something coming that's likely to hang the baler.

s several have said, it will work.....you just have to learn the techniques to make it work. Done years & 1000's with 8N. Sure, it became much nicer & less pucker when got the SMTA.

While you do not have live PTO, your biggest handicap with that tractor is the 4 speed tranny and how fast your ground speed will be with a PTO operated baler in 1st gear. If you only had the 5 speed tranny...

I run a NH65 baler with my little Kubota L285 (smaller than an N series Ford), but while my Kubota does not have live PTO it does have some slow gears to choose. Also run same NH 65 baler with Farmall h or Farmall M (no live PTO here either) in 1st gear. 1st gear on the Farmalls is slower than 1st gear on your Ford and it is still almost too fast for the capacity of the NH 65 even with light windrows but it does work.

Love the NH 65 as it is the smallest baler ever made (along with Ford 520 baler but no parts available for Ford 520) from mainstream manufacturers. If you intent on baling with your Ford 841 then I would be looking NH 67, 67S, 68, 68S, 69, 69S, 268, 269, 270, 271, or 273. Or JD 14T or 24T.

These all still have relatively low hp requirements but do have a bit more capacity so they will be able to better handle the hay you will be cramming in there compared to the NH 65 with your fast 1st gear on your tractor even though you made a light windrow.

Your tractor can successfully bale if you pick the right baler, but an idiot on the rake will make a very long day of headaches for you.
