601 fuel shutoff

Is there any way to retrofit the sediment bowl type of fuel shutoff from a NAA/Jubilee onto a 601 series tractor?

The reason I ask is that in the 10 years I have owned my 641, I have replaced the fuel shutoff twice, and it needs to be replaced again. Always the same problem; leaking out of the shutoff screw. Add to that the fact that my tractor never had a sediment bowl. I've always just used an inline fuel filter. If possible, this would fix both problems.

unless you have a universal replacement tank that has both the side and middle ports, then you will have to do a modification on your existing fuel tap to accomplish this, plus get the correct sediment bowl for your tractor.

1, you will need to remove your tap and clean it squeaky clean. if you can';t get the old needle out, screw it completely open, carb spray it again to remove oil and fuel, then jbweld all around the needle to the body so that you are blocking fuel passage out that direction.

2, then you will need to get brake line with ends to fit that tap and your new sediment bowl at the carb.

3, AND you will need a brass compression style shutoff valve. get a valve to matcht he prake line size. cut the line and union it with the valve compression fittings.

4, attach line to sediment bowl and sediment bowl to carb.

The sediment bowel should be on the carb. I think
you can buy steel fuel lines for most of the
Fords. I think it would be difficult to get a
steel line the correct lenegth. The ends of the
lines have to be flared.

Some where in the archives on this forum is a
proceedure for taking drilling out the rivet on the
fuel valve which lets you take out the fuel opening
and closing screw and replacing the o ring inside.
The rivet hole is then tapped for a screw which you
can put in with loc-tite to retain the screw with
the new o ring. I have done this with all three of
my Ford tractors and the 50 cent o ring is a lot
cheaper than the $45 dollar fuel valve
replacements.

I was just about to post about finding the instructions here http://search.yesterdaystractors.com/cgi-bin/viewit.cgi?bd=ford&th=500557. I bought the shutoff o-ring, top o-ring, and a screw to replace the rivet for $1.06. I just put it back on the tractor and it seems to be working just like new. Sure beats $58 for a new one at Tractor Supply.
