NAA Live Power PTO

Have seen few of these live PTO for 53 54 NAA tractors. Two
questions -

Could it be adapted to work on 4 speed 601?

How does it work - anyone got a picture of the inside components?

They work by using a clutch pack that replaces the solid, splined coupler between the tranny output and pinion shafts.
They have an extra handle coming out of the round cover on the side of the center housing.
Allows you to pull the handle back and stop the forward motion of the tractor without stopping the pto.
Of course stepping on the clutch still stops everything. And it's just another thing to have to handle while you are steering with one hand and raising your lift with the other.
They are expensive - when you can find one.
For my money, if I wanted live PTO I would look for a 5 sp transmission and clutch from a 55-65 660, 860, 661, 861, 961, 2000 or 4000 that had live pto and swap that in.

I agree with Ultra - find a 5-speed with live pto and swap that in... or trade tractors for one that already has live pto. You're going to look a long time before you find all the components for the add-on 'live' pto. Most likely cheaper to swap trannies or trade tractors, too.

Agree -

Just happen to see a local non running NAA on Clist for 1000 that has that unit in it. But since I have never seen one on the x00 or x01 though ask and see if anyone has ever gone that route.

For a grand, if it appears everything is there, I'd buy it. Those things just don't show up often. And like the post two above, you could sell it off and have a nearly free project tractor...if it wouldn't work in your tractor.

The 'other' N tractor site has the owners manual with lots of pics.

live pto for the NAA - Owner's manual

saw the listing, too far for me and I'm not buying right now (well, trying not to anyway)
I'd take about 2200 cash with me, and buy all 3 of them............
